The farm animal side of the practice aims to combine more traditional
farm animal medicine and surgery with more modern-thinking preventative
medicine work in order to secure the health, welfare and productivity
of your stock. The practice has well over 100 years of production
animal veterinary experience amongst the vets and we hope you'll find
us a friendly approachable service.
Preventative Medicine and Herd Health Planning

We are able and
qualified to produce the British Cattle Veterinary Association and
F.A.B.B.L. compatible herd health plans. For beef and sheep clients we
can provide a lighter herd health plan through the "Good Health" Plan
software.

Interherd
We
possess the Interherd software program that allows us to analyse NMR
milk recordings and thus monitor important information relating to
productivity, allowing us to identify potential problems before they
become disasters. We provide somatic cell count interpretations on a
monthly basis for a number of our dairy clients, and are also able to
interpret fertility data.
|
|
Routine Herd Health Visits
Routine fertility visits are a chance to identify cows that are not in
calf, or not bulling, and ensure they don't drift out of the production
cycle. We have four ultrasound scanners for fast and accurate routine
fertility work. One of these is the "wire free" Easiscan portable
scanner which has a self contained power supply, which allows us
anywhere, including in a field!

Forums and Meetings
We routinely hold client meetings for our farmers to encourage
discussion about important topics. Through iniatives such as the Red
Meat Industry Forum and Duchy Herd Health Plans, and drug company
support we are able to organise such meetings, either in our large
meeting room at North Tawton, or out on farm. Recent discussion
subjects include high cell count cows, lambings and lameness. In
addition we are encouraging benchmarking schemes to compare the success
of your enterprise against local and national production figures.

Herd Health Problem Investigations
Whether
it be a low lambing percentage, a drop in milk protein or an outbreak
of calf pneumonia, we can give advice, perform appropriate
investigations and provide solutions to any herd or flock health
problems. Our broad range of interests and combined experience and
training make us a valuable resource for animal health.

|
Equipment
We are able to
loan pieces of equipment when needed at a minimal charge. We frequently
lend out cow hoists, cow nets, dehorning irons and even have a cattle
crush at the practice should you not possess one. Other equipment may
be available upon request. We have a wealth of knowledge and resources
at our fingertips and will work together to increase the health and
productivity of your herd or flock.
