If you have a geriatric dog (big dogs from 7 years – smaller dogs from 8 years) you can have a free health check with one of our qualified Veterinary Nurses.
This is an opportunity to recognise signs of aging and what is normal or what can be done to treat or prevent diseases and illness.
Common age related problems include arthritis, which can be very painful and debilitating – or heart disease which can make your dog tired, lethargic and irritable. There are also more subtle diseases such as under active thyroid or Chronic Cognitive Disease which is the equivalent of our old age dementia and can be helped by using antioxidants, or even just being overweight can in itself cause other diseases and problems.
Please answer the following questions;
Does your dog have difficulty getting up after lying down? Does your dog limp at all? Does your dog lick alot on one or more legs? Is your dog reluctant to walk so far? Does your dog pant more? Has your dog changed their eating habits? Has your dogs weight changed, without altering his diet or exercise regime? Is your dog drinking more? Does your dog get regular sickness or diarrhoea?
If the answer is yes to any of these questions please give us a ring to arrange an appointment.
One of our nurses will examine your dog’s mouth, skin and joints and discuss any potential problems that may be present. They will also check a urine sample if you are able to bring one from your dog along to the appointment. We may also take a blood pressure measurement and If there are any disease problems a vet can discuss these with you and suggest any treatment options.
Please give us a call to book your free appointment and mention which surgery you would like to attend.
If you could try to bring along a urine sample that would be very helpful but don’t worry if you are not able to.
